    Professional Student...

Saturday, June 14, 2008, 03:17 PM EST [General]

I swear I am starting to feel like a professional student.  I have said before that I am starting graduate school in the fall but I am going crazy this summer with even registering for class and my license.  I can just have a week off without thinking about school or what is due when.

I have to apply to the licensing board to get approval to sit for the exam.  Apparently it is $25 for them to even consider this.  Then I have to pay $75 to sit for the exam and $125 to actually take it and then $50 to keep up my license if I pass.  Oh, and don't forget the money I have to pay to give the board an official transcript from the college.

I also had to pay to join the NASW to that I can then apply for malpractice insurance with I also have to pay for.  This is in addition to regular school costs.

The old adage is true - you have to spend money to make money.

The good news is I only have to go 2 more semesters and then I'll have my masters.  Yeah!

My family will be so happy when I am finally done.  They might actually get to see me on a regular basis.  My husband says it best though - the sacrifices we make now reap benefits in the future.  He is making the sacrifice as well by working midnight to 8am to help me out.

I am so lucky to have their support.

    College Graduation - FINALLY

Wednesday, May 7, 2008, 10:47 PM EST [General]

I did it!  I have finally gotten my Bachelors Degree in Social Work.  To top it off, my practicum site hired me, so I am an official social worker at the local nursing home.

It feels so odd to be done - but I guess not too odd since I'm now working full time and will also be starting graduate school in the fall at the University of Louisville.

Now I just really need to get centered!  I have been so out of touch, both with friends and myself - I really need to get back into my personal quest.

Wish me luck - blessings to you all!

    my practicum site

Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 06:45 PM EST [General]

Hello all, long time no chat.  For those that didn't know I am in my senior year at Morehead State University and am doing my practicum (work study) at the local nursing home.  It was supposed to be at the VA, but that did not work out.  Talk about blessings in disguise.  The VA would have been group counseling that I really could only observe.  The nursing home is a lot of one on one interaction and I am learning a lot more about social work as a whole.  My biggest fear starting out was how would I interact with the residents.  Now it is paperwork.  Compared to that the residents are cake!  I'm at a loss sometimes because in conversations with both residents and staff they freely express their beliefs (religious, political, etc) but I just don't feel that my beliefs and opinions would be welcomed, but I really can't just put that on the facility, because that applies to everyone and everything down here.  Anyway, it is a great site and the people there are just wonderful, and they have already approached me with considerations of me staying on there after graduation.  I'm excited about that opportunity because then I have the chance to get more experience and make some moola while I work toward my Masters.  Really the thing that has me worried and stressed right now isn't my practicum site but my 2 research papers and my 30 page agency paper...

    Checking in....

Friday, October 19, 2007, 06:11 PM EST [General]

Wow, I cannot believe it's been over a a month since I posted on here.  I didn't realize how much I liked coming here and reading everyone's posts until I dropped back in!  School has been really busy and I am trying to line up my practicum at the VA but so far I am having a time getting someone to call me back.  I have been so busy with school my house is in shambles.  Ah, oh well.  DH and DD understand, so that is all that matters.  Hope everyone is well - I'll be perusing old posts for probably the rest of the day.  Blessed be!

    I was tagged

Wednesday, September 12, 2007, 02:31 PM EST [General]

"Each player starts with eight random facts/habits or embarrassing things about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog."

    1. If you cut my skin I would bleed chocolate, that's how much I love it

    2. I am a Weird Al Yankovic fan

    3. My 52 lb dog is a big wuss

    4. My daughter likes to pretend she's a belly dancer like her aunt

    5. My sister and BIL are big renfest people

    6. Sometimes I argue the other side, even if I don't agree with it just to get people to think of another point of view

    7. I miss living near family

    8. Once at a USMC mock boot camp (before I left for the real one) a DI asked me why I wanted to join the Marines.  I answered "to be all I can be".  Anyone familiar with USMC and the Army will tell you why that was embarrassing, and earned me some DI spittle in my face...
